Yes, Calistos in Cresta Mall is halaal – and yes the food is spectacular! They are also equipped with a huge play area perfect to keep your kiddies busy while you indulge.

For drinks, we had the whisper shake which was very chocolatey and decadent, the summer sparkle mocktail which is made up of passion fruit, lemonade and cream soda and was definitely my favourite…as well as the Manhattan containing cranberry and orange juice which had a very sweet kick!

Newly introduced on the menu is their very own sushi – made up of a good variety – expertly presented and served with ginger, wasabi and soy sauce.

Our mains consisted of the LM Piri Piri Chicken served with Fillet steak, lemon butter prawns as well as peri peri prawns. Served with a side of chips, rice, butternut and spinach. The fillet steak was absolutely tender, melt in the mouth, soft to the touch, just the way we like our steak! The lemon butter prawns were so fresh and saucy and had me going back for more… But the chicken is what won my heart – perfectly spiced, flavoured, cooked and grilled. Although Calistos sauce is sold at most outlets… no homemade recipe can touch this chicken. Second best Highlight of my day!

So the best and number one highlight of my day? The dish that transported me back to Barcelona (they are known for their seafood paella). And a most sensational seafood paella it was. Saucy and flawlessly spiced rice accompanied with all types of seafood including prawns, mussels, calamari and more. I had never even come across this dish at a Calistos before and I am so glad I did! Please do give this impeccable dish a try! ?

We were also served an array of delightful desserts – malva pudding, missisipi choc mud pie, New York baked cheesecake and a cookies and cream dessert. Served with cream and ice cream, garnished with strawberries and paradisiacally presented with spun sugar. A+ for presentation. A++ for taste. I am so glad we got to eat all four, because I would not be able to choose just one ?
